The police were hell-bent on having Lassie killed because it was the law. Yet, the assault which resulted in death and attempted robbery were never persued by the police. Perhaps Jock never reported these crimes.

When the two dog catchers were going into the grave yard to capture Lassie, at first thought they were the robbers from the start of the film turned grave robbers. Looked like the same actors.
