does this end the same as the 1980 movie?

guess i won't have to put "spoiler" or something in the topic, i was wondering, seems like this and the 1980 flick is based on the same story, and there is some discussion about the 1980 flick if they survived in the end. though a 1991 sequal is explaining 2 of them dead, i think it was. so how does this end? just like the 1980 flick? i guess the 1991 movie could might as well be a sequal to one these older versions since it's also based on an old story and only filmed once that one.

though there's not as much here anymore,
i still felt like staying a bit closer to home,
distant love don't mean as much to be true,
and i have to get back to,
a languege in another way coming through,
i got to go back to where i come from,
though so much has gone,
i still feel like staying, a bit closer to home.

Yes both parents died but their child survived

The very end shows the guy waking up the woman, which suggests they weren't dead, just asleep, or very weak from malnourishment.

It was never very clear. I read the book which implied that Michael and Emmeline died but the child survived. The film ended with them wrapped in each others arms, but the child was moving.

I just watched it on youtube and it first shows them lying still and the baby moving and crying but then it shows the island from a distance and comes back to them in the boat and he clearly wakes up, looks at the baby and then lifts his arm and puts it on her so I got the feeling they were just asleep just like in the 1980 movie.
