Truly Terrible
Anyone who thinks that Brooke Shields was not a good actress as a teenager will change their mind after watching this adaptation.
The music is migraine-inducing, the cinematography is murky, the screenplay is boring, Donald Huston is playing twenty and looks thirty-five, Jean Simmons' costume changes were unnecessary, and her petulance wore thin after a few scenes.I was bored.
The little boy who played their son was adorable. My rating of #1 is for him.
The Randall Kleiser version still holds up after THIRTY-FIVE years ! Of, course, Brooke is beautiful and the scenery is gorgeous, the soaring romantic score, the story that involves you and takes you away, and the casting was just right.I would watch it again tomorrow but the 1949 version, never again.
Even Return to the Blue Lagoon was not this bad.(although, it's pretty bad.)
Rescue the damsel in distress, whip the bad guy, save the world.
