Not Bad

This wasn't bad at the time of filming. If anyone is an Indianapolis 500 fanatic, they will love this film.

I`ve seen this movie a few times early in the morning locally out of Chicago on a PBS station that shows older Public Domain movies. They have shown Micky Rooney starring in this film and in the more impressive "Quicksand".I find that I`m amazed at how good of an actor Micky was as he makes both of these movies enjoyable, interesting as well as entertaining to watch...

Right...
I got this movie as part of a "20 movie pac". They did a nice job cleaning it up & it sounds good as well.
I was fully thinking this film was going to be a hokey piece of garbage...
The jokes on me.
Very watchable little film.

Watch for the horrifying real and fake accidents and the severe lack of safty equipment that was the norm in racing back then too. It`s a deccent film besides this as well, but seeing racers fly to the track and beyond durring accidents stays with me the most from this film.

"Severe lack of safety equipment" — I wondered about that myself! Where, I kept thinking, were the fire extinguishers (modern race cars carry them)? After the especially brutal accident in lap two of the 1964 Indianapolis 500 (one-third of the cars were involved and two drivers were killed) the rules were changed so gas tanks had to be filled with a sponge-like substance so the fuel couldn't explode in the tank and create a fireball; also the amount of fuel the cars could carry was reduced and the cars were required to make at least two pit stops during the race -- which led the teams to run their cars on ethanol, which gets lower mileage but is less flammable than gasoline.

This film was pretty entertaining. Mickey Rooney gave an extremely engaging and energetic performance in the lead.
