It's been awhile since I've seen this so-bad-it's-good classic. I remember a line: When Rosa (Bette) was on trial for murder and she was asked about the shooting. And she replies something like: "I thought he was a bear so I shot him. Sorry." And then she flips her hair back, as only Bette Davis could do. Classic!

I can resist anything but temptation.

She looks good with long hair. Too bad she's a bit dumpy and in some shots the camera really shows her age (esp. her bedroom scene w/the tangled window cover).

When she's ready for action in Chicago however she's pretty foxy !!!

She would look a lot better (younger, too) the following year making "All About Eve", during which she and Gary Merrill fell in love. During the filming of "Beyond the Forest", she was miserable about making the film, angry with her employer (Warner Bros.), and had just broken up with her third husband, none of which would do anyone's looks any good. Personally, I don't think the dark hair helped matters, but I guess they wanted her character to have a hard look.

Actually, Davis looks unusually thin in this movie.

She looked gorgeous and YOUNG, I noticed her with black hair in JUAREZ
and this time it's LONG black hair, and it is something I suspected all along:
LONG HAIR MAKES YOU LOOK YOUNGER - WILL WOMEN EVER LEARN?

Just watched it again, and I'd like to change my mind...I think she looks great! Reminds me of Carolyn Jones' "Morticia Addams".

LOL, I fully agree.

Bette looked great in this with that black, long hair and her big, deep blue eyes, which are noticeable even when filmed in B&W. Same in "Juarez" and, of course, "All About Eve". Such a fascinating, captivating face.

I couldn't agree more. Unfortunately, it was considered morally incorrect at the time of its release, but fortunately it's been getting its due over the years, and now it's iconic and great fun to watch. It features one of the most representative roles in Bette's filmography, highly associated to her movie image.
