George Murphy

Ha. I just had to point out that he's my...great, great, great uncle! I suppose that you all have seen this movie, so I was wondering if he was any good!

George Murphy is excellent in this movie, as are so many others. Murphy's character Pop has a poignant friendship with Ricardo Montalban's character, and he's also in lots of other good scenes. "Battleground" is one of the best World War II movies, in my opinion, so you should see it for your Great Great Uncle and also since its a good movie.

George Murphy is also in another good WWII movie called "Bataan," in case you're interested.

He is excellent in both 'Bataan and Battleground'. An extremly talented performer and also underrated.

Great performace and he's surrounded by seasoned actors and actors just starting out. I got to meet Van Johnson, Marshall Thompson and Richard Jaekel. They were all great guys like your great, great uncle. A few years ago, I met James Whitmore and Ricardo Montalban; both stand up guys as well. Mr. Whitmore even signed my laser disc, "Sgt. Kinney- Sound off!" This movie will always stand the test of time as its a greta character study. You should very proud to have had such a talented actor like George Murphy in your family.

"Hello, Joe, whaddaya know?"
"Just got back from a vaudeville show...hey, these guys are alright!"

And let's not forget Mr. Murphy was a talented dancer. See BROADWAY MELODY OF 1940 or FOR ME AND MY GAL.

He was a good actor, always portrayed a serious and ethical character. He went on to to be a spokesman for MGM Studios and you might want to look for some of his previews of coming attractions for MGM. You can see how he took to politics, first becoming President of SAG and then running for the US Senate.
