Who is this character sugar boy and of what importance is he? It has been a while since I had seen this but as I recall he was a stuttering fool that the locals made fun of next thing you know he is willie stark's right hand man. Very confusing..his charactyer is underdeveloped. I would like to know how he got involved with willie and why and also who is was to willie

It is my impression that Willie felt empathy toward Sugar because he was one of the downtrodden. He was able to see beyond the speech impediment and find a loyal dependable aide
