Difference between the words 'hick' and 'redneck'?

The word "hick" is used several times but I don't know if "redneck" is ever said (I haven't seen it in many years). Are they the same? What's the difference?

I believe the term redneck was used once or twice in the movie, but not in addressing the people. It was used indirectly when someone referred to another as a redneck behind their back. I always thought that the term hick was another way of saying "country bumpkin." A person from the north or south could be a hick- as long as they lived in the countryside. "Hick from the sticks." Redneck seems more of a southern/Midwestern term used to describe an uncultured blue collar person. Red neck from working underneath the heat of the sun all day. Then, to complicate matters, there's the term "hillbilly." More of an Appalachian/Ozark mountains deal I think.

I've heard rednecks refer to themselves as rednecks. I think "hick" is more derogatory.
