a running back wearing 73?
Um...no. That's not how it works.

Back then? It sure did. Marion Mötley, one of the first great Black professional football players, played Fullback for the Cleveland Browns while wearing #76. And this is in the 1940s, not far from the time ATKM was made
shareYou're thinking NFL uniform number rules (which weren't instituted until 1973 anyhow). In college the numbers are just suggested but there are no rules. Back in the 40s there was even less structure and players wore different numbers all over the field.
shareOtto Graham, the Cleveland Browns' QB, wore No. 65, I think.
May I bone your kipper, Mademoiselle?
That's correct about uniform numbers. Slingin' Sammy Baugh was #33 and Bobby Layne #22 as QBs. As late as the 70s, John Hadl wore #21. All QBs.
I get OP's amusement w/the football scenes, though. How about the 1-2-3-4-5 count? LOL.
