The pistol

Isn't Spencer Tracy's trick of eating the pistol one of the funniest scenes ever done in the movies?

reply

Abso-freaking-lutely! When he started eating it I burst out laughing. Licorice, yum yum! Don't you love how Kip jumped behind Amanda for cover?

reply

Absolutely fantastic. Saw this movie when I was 11 years old in 1949 and loved it then and I love it now. I actually thought it was a real gun for a while and when he put it in his mouth I screamed with Amanda and Kip !!!! LOL

How good is it to find someone else mentioning this scene? I have loved it ever since I first saw the movie on TV in the 60s. ... and the "fight" scene in the corridor ... all those doors slamming, people going in and out of the wrong apartments ... the rapport between Tracy and Hepburn ... their amazing scenes together ... soooo natural and sooo funny - eg the cooking in the kitchen scene and ... that unseen kiss ... a pity we couldn't actually see it, but nevertheless very sexy. Sigh. Also the home movie - Hepburn looks gorjus and Tracy is very funny - unzipped fly - cheeky looks to the camera. Must watch it again!

Unzipped fly? When?

"I'm not sure I can watch anymore. No, wait, I can. I can."

There is a scene in the movie where a home movie is shown and one scene has Spencer asleep in the garden of their holiday house which they have just paid off. He is woken up and as he stands up has to grab his trousers as they are undone. I know the way I tell it, it doesn't sound funny at all. Just watch the movie. You'll see what i mean.

I love that scene. I thought the gun was made out of chocolate. But it was licorice and that made it even funnier for me because I can't stand licorice!

I think we're just gonna have to be secretly in love with each other and leave it at that.
