This one is one of the best. I forget how much I like it until I watch it again, and I then I laugh hysterically at the end... "Hooray for that little difference!"
What other great comic endings do you love? Some of my faves include:
Some Like It Hot- Nobody's Perfect, the quintessential comic ending. The Producers- Prisoner of Love- ha, ha. Dirty Rotten Scoundrels- Are you ready, boys? Then let's go get 'em.
Young Frankenstein, "Dawling, zhere's somezhing I steel don't undershtand. During zhee transference, the Monster got part of your magnificent bwain. But what did you get from him? Ohhhhhh! OHHHHHH! Sweet mystery of life at last I've found you!"
The final scene of “The Man with Two Brains” is a classic with the final piece of public inofrmation about Merv Griffin being an inspired closing gag.
I also love the very last moment of “The Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad” with Nordberg being patted on the back by Frank while he's in the wheel chair and he goes hurtling down the long downward steps at the baseball stadium and one he crashes down at the bottom he goes somersaulting out of the chair as you hear Jane (Priscilla Presley) say:
“Everyone should have a friend like you Frank”.
Hilarious!
Monty Python and the Life of Brian with that rendition of “Always Look on the Bright Side of Life” must count as one of the most wonderfully surreal and comically bleak denouements in cinema history.
The conclusion of “Monty Python and the Holy Grail” is inspired as well and some what inspired I think by Blazing Saddles. Again hilariously surreal as a squad of policeman run in to arrest all the remaining protagonists as they're about the charge in to battle and they're all bundled in to police vans and the very last shot is of a policeman putting his hand over the camera and it then cuts to black.
