womens' rights? (Spoilers!)

I consider men who treat women as second class citizens, stuck in the stone age, but this movie also brings up an interesting note about the "rights" of spouses. Like when hepburn finds herself in the exact situation that the unfaithful husband did at the begining of the film towards the end, it's saying something about don't take the law into you're own hands (like Mystic River), and don't jump to conclusions, ever.

can you elaborate on this further? I don't quite understand what you are saying.

Into the 1980s, in Texas, there was what was known as the Paramour Law that gave a man the right to shoot another who was "breaking up his home."

This movie was made in a day where many states probably had such laws.

And was the Paramour Law a successful law?

I remember this guy telling me how he came home and found his wife in bed with his best friend and in a fit of rage he shot his wife. I asked him why didn't you shoot the guy too? He said " I couldn't shoot him, he's my best friend
