Every time I see the Lone Ranger putting his mask back on, he is seen tying it. However whenever I see the Ranger without his hat, the back of the mask looks like an elastic band with no tied ends. Elastic in the old West?

Of course the straps weren't elastic. They were cloth with Velcro fasteners.

I guess it depends on what Dan Reid, Sr.'s, vest was made out of, since that's where Tonto got the fabric for at least the original mask.
