Where was the original filmed?

I've begun to watch the original series, I see the very same landscape that represents different places. Does anyone know where they did their taping?

The intro where the Silver rears up in front of a rock was filmed in Chatsworth, California. (If you look up "Lone Ranger rock" on YouTube, there are a couple of videos where fans have revisited the rock formation.) I imagine the rest of the series was filmed in the surrounding areas.

I hadn't thought about it before, but I'm guessing the reason why there were so many TV westerns was to take advantage of the desert landscape surrounding Hollywood, California.

At the end of many episodes the credits show "Filmed in Hollywood and Corriganville". Corriganville was a 1500 acre ranch and film set used for filming Westerns.

An episode I saw today from Season 5, "Hot Spell in Panamint", was filmed in the Owens Valley east of the Sierra Nevada range. The credits didn't say so but I recognized the location by looking at the distant shots of the snow capped mountains.

They did some shooting at the Spahn Movie Ranch, which later became infamous as the home of the murderous Manson Family.

In his autobiography, I Was That Masked Man, Clayton Moore writes about taking his daughter to the Spahn Ranch to show her where they had made some of the shows. He was aghast to find that Mr. Spahn was living in a trailer while these strange people were living in his house. He couldn't get out of there fast enough. He said that when he looked at Charles Manson, he had the feeling he was looking at something purely evil.
