original Western Film Noirs. No lie.

Let it be unsaid: insignificance is the locus of true increpation.

Film noir is a cinematic term used primarily to describe stylish Hollywood crime dramas, particularly those that emphasize cynical attitudes and sexual motivations.
...
Many of the prototypical stories and much of the attitude of classic noir derive from the hardboiled school of crime fiction that emerged in the United States during the Depression.
...
Film noir encompasses a range of plots—the central figure may be a private eye (The Big Sleep), a plainclothes policeman (The Big Heat), an aging boxer (The Set-Up), a hapless grifter (Night and the City), a law-abiding citizen lured into a life of crime (Gun Crazy), or simply a victim of circumstance (D.O.A.).

Yellow Sky is a western shot in a noir style, but it is not a film noir.

AS I wrote on another thread, I beg to differ. The Western, like the Gangster film, was founded on simple moral conflicts -- opposing good and evil; yet, in the same way the period films are occasionally able to transcend their locales or generic constructs to approach noir themes, the Western, which can be considered a period film, may also involve itself with the patterns and sensibilities of the film noir. I thank you, though, for your reasoned arguement, taken as it was from an online site that considers itself an encyclopedia. One that has been both held up and reviled probably more times than it has been proven reliable.

True, some Wikipedia articles are less authoritative than others. Some authors have ulterior motives. Some are simply insincere. Others write and support their articles very well, with no other motives on their minds.

Which do you suppose this is? Or have you discounted it off hand, without so much as a glance, and made Wikipedia your whipping boy?

I don't disagree with your argument, but it only puts the film in a similar light, without considering the origins and crime-magazine style of true film noir.
