The film didn't make clear what Mickey died of. By looking at him and his face, it sorta looked like he had a bad flu or pneumonia, but the narration said how he was sick for months before that last scene with Mickey. My second guess is some type of cancer or a brain tumor which would explain him suddenly passing out at the theater in front of everyone.

Yeh, I meant Lorenz Hart. Mickey died in 2013, same year as Esther Williams. They both lived to their 90s.
