what's that tune?

If anyone knows the name or artist of that great 40s pop tune that plays on the record player in Lord Alfred's first fantasy, please e-mail me at [email protected]. Thanks.

It was almost undoubtedly just a little piece composed by Alfred Newman, but I bet Sturges had a hand in it. That's one of my favorite little details in the film, along with other quirky little sounds like the zipper on August's wallet or the "dry white bread" when Albert pokes at it.

I get the feeling it was meant to be a rather contemptuous send-up of pop music of the day. Whoever was responsible, they get credit for injecting such wonderful, low-key humor into just an organ and an accordion playing boogie-woogie. Now I think of it, that in itself is funny!

Poe! You are...avenged!

The funny thing is that it uses themes of the Rossini Ouverture that Alfred is conducting at that moment.
