The VERY last shot.....

the camera pans down, and there's a bag remnant on the ground, caught on the prickles of a cactus. The bag seemed a little bit more bulgy than being completely empty. Is it implied that there was a little gold left in that particular bag, or am i reading too much into it?

reply

Therein lies the quandary. There may have been some left in it, but what about the cactus and the sand, the bag, etc...symbolic images that tie into the moral of the story. The director might not even know what they all meant...Great movies like this one have that depth that you can never get to the bottom of

I think "the director" knew what it meant. You know who the director was? A guy by the name of John Huston. Ever hear of him? In this opinion the greatest in film history. maybe you should check out some of his other films. Especially, a couple you might of heard of called "The Maltese Falcon" and "The Asphalt Jungle'.

I know who the director was....but I'll still hold firm that even so he may not have even known exactly what it meant, or rather, it mite mean something to hum a D something totally different to us. Thata the strength of a great director...great artist..etc....perhaps a film class at the local Jr college would do you well?
