It reminded me corporate America...

..no morals, just pursuing their own interests, zero empathy.

I like your updated version of your OP Spanishlatam. Here's what I think. Gold can change a man. Howard, the old man, cautioned the men before they left on their quest that this could happen. Well, after they found the treasure, Fred Dobbs changed. He absolutely descended into paranoia and selfishness, and had no empathy for anyone. His own interests were all that mattered and he trusted no one. However, in the beginning of the movie, in order to get the quest underway, he put in all his lottery ticket winnings above and beyond what the other two could do.

Compare that to Howard and Curtin. Both had a moral compass. Howard demanded that they put the mountain back the way she was as they had wounded her. He also put the interests of a dying Indian boy ahead of his own and left the team to help save him. Curtin felt bad that Cody, the interloping gold seeker had been killed by the bandits. After reading an un-mailed letter to his wife back home, Curtin and Howard agreed to give Cody's widow a share of the gold.

Now, how can you say that all this reminded you of corporate America? Did you actually watch the movie? Even Dobbs was not all bad. Many hold to the theory that he suffered some sort of mental breakdown and that was not his true character.

So, if you want to portray corporate America in a bad light, this is a poor movie to compare it to.

Dobbs had the makings of a criminal psychopath from day one, they showed his history and you can see it if you look, at least that's my opinion.

But corporate America, and the American blinder is worse. We are becoming like a cold heartless inhuman machine and very stupid at the top where people should have the best lives.

When I reflect on Curtin's "moral compass", I keep in mind that a moment before the bandit attack he was on the verge of participating in the murder of Cody just for being inconvenient.

Don't drink the bong water, it's making you stupid.
