Where in France is this supposed to take place, anyhow

Watching the first hour or so, and there's a sword fight in what looks like a park or garden (beautiful green place with statues and a fountain) and then they are galloping madly through the kind of desert and canyons old-fashioned Westerns used to be made in. Half expected to see Roy Rogers and Lash LaRue headin' off tha bad buys... Ending up with another mad gallop down a huge huge deserted beach The locations are quite nice to look at but what a mishmash.

I think some of the beautiful gardens in this film were filmed at the long gone Busch Gardens in Pasadena. I think this was some kind of large park in a sort of valley that was used in many films including the picnic at Twelve Oaks in Gone With the Wind. Some of the desert scenes sure didn't look like anywhere in France. The scenes along the coast looked terrific, California of course, but a good stand-in for France.

"Desert scenes"? Can you tell us the time-of-movie or at least what scenes these were?

I pay attention to such things and only recall woodsy areas and forest roads, from the three times I've seen it on this DVD in the past two weeks. You have me wondering if there were edits made before this DVD was burned.

All the scenery I saw made me think it was consistent with the Paris-to-Normandy-and-Calais area.
