Bonding by singing

TCM showed Maytime recently, and I loved how the characters played by Jeanette MacDonald and Nelson Eddy grow closer while singing "My Old Virginny Home," first in a silly way, then more sincerely.

In this film, MacDonald's character and her daughter apologize to one another and re-bond while singing together.

I love to sing, and love the feeling of connection when singing in harmony with others. Both films captured it well.

One thing about this film bothers me -- why not just have Jose Iturbi play a character who is just like him, but has another name? It was done in films all the time.

The fact that he is worked into the story as himself is not so weird in films like Anchors Aweigh. But in this one, having him married to a main character, it's just so odd.
