WHAT?! Remake with Richard Gere

I kid you not. Marshall Garry (who directed Gere in Runaway Bride and Pretty Woman) is directing a remake of State of the Union, to be released next year. It will also star Annette Bening, in the Katharine Hepburn role.

I've gotta say, the 1948 version is good diverting fun, if mostly for the performances by Lansbury/Tracy/Hepburn and great dialogue - more than the ridiculous plot. But of all the Capra movies to remake - why this poor B list oldie about 1940s machine politics? How do you possibly update that to the present day? Every politician is having an affair, do we need a movie about it? I don't want to sit through a film with a John Edwards like protagonist.

So blah blah blah what a weird idea for a movie. But since it's apparently being made, who to cast in the Angela Lansbury role?

Why waste the film, time and money remaking ANY Capra film.
Without Capra it would only be just another unwatchable POS.
They could do something that has been unheard of for the past 20 years.
They could make an original movie using an original screenplay.

Huh? You call a movie with this budget and Spencer Tracy (near his peak) and Katharine Hepburn and Van Johnson a "B" movie?????
