Television Set

At the 1 hour 44 minute mark there is a scene where someone flips open a cabinet where the lid is a television screen. The lid seems quite narrow with no big bulky tube. This sort of surprised me because I would have thought that type of technology didn't come about until decades later.

Anyone know if there were actual compact television sets like this back in 1948? Or was this just a conceptual futuristic display that only existing in the movies?

It was a mirror reflecting the screen which was mounted horizontally in the cabinet.

My great-aunt had a model like that. She bought it the late 40s and was still watching it in the early 60s when I visited her.

There was also an interesting tv set in the film 'Dial 1119' (1950). Most of the film takes place in a seedy bar. The place has a huge projection tv hanging on the wall behind the bar and the bartender has the remote. I was really surprised to see such a set. I'm not sure if they really existed at the time.
