To me, Henry resisted Leona as long as he could. Her bulldozer character awakened Henry's greed for her own ends.
Note how she manipulated her dad... Ed Begley, no less!
She got what she wanted... or thought she did.
Part of the tragedy, to me, was that Henry and Sally, who had known each other since childhood, came from the same origins and were better suited to one another.
You may have a point.. when that greed took over, he really changed..
