First Lady of the Land

I know this film is dead serious, but I had to chuckle at the
lady who combed her whole hair over her face, then announced
"I am the first lady of the land, and I have every right to cover my face"

LOL!!!! my wife and I were laughing at that part the other night. Made us laugh too. :-)

"60 takes, I didn't see a difference in one of them man."

There was SO much going on in that scene...I was in awe by the writing and the acting of all the women in that ward...freaked me out...what an interesting film. I had never seen it before today.

Serious though the movie is, there are moments of humor. For example, how about the woman who starts singing "Sweet Georgia Brown" while doing a loose Charleston on the rug - a rug they're not supposed to walk on, even though it's on the floor. I think the audience was supposed to find - and certainly needed! - some comic relief in that scene.

Hate to play debbie downer, but...

sorry, guys, but there isn't a damn thing funny about that scene. From one who has been there, this scene was stunningly accurate. They do speak in tongues, and do say things that make no sense...and if you find yourself there, it will be sooo hard to get out...and the place will make you into a person who belongs there.

scary stuff, guys. No laughing matter. Just sayin.

The First Lady reminded me of the secret first wife of Edward VIII in ''I Never Promised You A Rose Garden''. And when the lady did her vaudeville turn on the rug you weren't supposed to step on (whee!), I knew why the film version of ''Rose Garden'' had Lee Miller do a very similar song about why a woman might want a dog instead of a man (besides that Susan Tyrrel was hilarious). I always thought Gertrude (Celia Lovsky) was supposed to be a Holocaust survivor as she is praying in German. Maybe she can't tell the difference between where she is now and Dachau or wherever.

Let's just say that God doesn't believe in me.

i thought that scene was a great break from such a heavy Movie. That is like "one flew over the Cooko Nest" after some really Scenes where you are suppose to laugh The Movie gets really Dark. One thing that impressed me the most was the Down The List Cast and what a great job they all did. Even the One lady with the gloves trying to one up Virginia in her stature.
