Brian Aherne, in my mind, is one of the most underrated actors of the 30's and 40's. He was definitely impressive here, best known though for his role as the Emperor Maximillian in the 1939 JUAREZ. Be that as it may, he's sure worth watching in this film.

I totally agree with you that Brian Aherne was an underrated actor. I am fascinated by him--I just finished reading his autobiography, and he seemed to be a sensitive soul, which I believe comes across in his acting. Watch his eyes. He started as a stage actor in England, and I got the impression he underrated himself to a degree. I am in the midst of watching as many of his movies as I can find, including SMART WOMAN. I find him very believable in his films.
