Don Ameche

rails from his seat in the afterworld. He should have played the lead in this and Bob his part. How unsanctimonious those days.

For me, Ameche was the worst thing about this film. Such stiff dialogue delivery, he was sleepwalking through the whole thing, pun intended.

Although Ameche was normally a very good actor, I've also felt that he kind of sleepwalked through this role. It might have been good for Cummings and him to switch roles, although one reviewer suggested that Burr play Ameche's role; the latter would definitely have been interesting.

I am not familiar with Don Ameche's work overall, but in this movie he seemed somewhat stiff and affected, like a bad actor trying to play a smooth part. That said, once I learned that the house was Mrs. Courtland's and she was from a wealthy family, his character seemed a bit more plausible. I felt that he was a smooth talker that married a woman for her money and was now trying to get rid of her without having any suspicion cast on him. Everything he said seemed stilted because it was probably a lie.

Can't imagine the ultra-wooden/goofy Cummings with his awkward nice guy demeanor being able to credibly menace anyone.
