Original cut of the film

My Dad lived in the internment camp filmed in the movie. He was apparently featured prominently in one scene. He hunted down a copy of the film but the scene was not in it. He says the original cut was longer than 104 minutes.

Does anyone know where I can find the original? He says he remembers seeing it in the 1950s after coming to the United States and recognized himself in the movie. If anyone can help me find an extended version of this film that would be amazing. Thank you.
