Wrong about the fate of the young actor

Although the communist regime had not been happy about the American Oscar to the young Ivan Jandl and he had certain problems by his further casting due to this, he had never worked in quarry as repeatedly mentioned in few comments.

He had continued playing in few children films back home in Czechoslovakia, later as an adult on theater. He had gone through different jobs but never in a quarry. Look on his Website http://www.ivanjandl.com/ and his pictures from the later days http://www.ivanjandl.com/galerie.htm

I remember first seeing this movie on American television in the late 1950's. The next time I saw it was on Turner Classic Movies in April, 2006. TCM host Robert Osborne mentioned the stone quarry story at that time. I've seen all the information since then that disproves the quarry saga. I notice from TCM's website that they get a LOT of requests to show THE SEARCH. I've saw it once again on TCM earlier this year (2009), but it was on in the wee, small hours with no commentary. Just an interesting observation to pass along.

There is a lot of historical revisionism going on today with so many communists like Obama in power around the globe. Of COURSE they can't admit that they worked beautiful Ivan Jandl to death. I believe the rock quarry story; it fits with the viciousness of the communist system during those years, when 100 million souls were murdered at the hands of Godless leftists.

I believe the rock quarry story

Of course you'd believe in such a story when there's incontrovertible evidence to the contrary...it would be incongruous with your rabid way of thinking. Just like you put stock in every word contained in an antiquated, outdated piece of fantastic fiction like the bible, believed in the "justice" of the witch hunts in the 50s, proudly champion the American Revolution yet vehemently argue for the campaign in Vietnam, believe that an individual who stands out from the majority is a malcontent and a communist, believe that everybody should be united and suppressed under your dogmatism and sickening brand of religious fanaticism, and loudly support your invasion of a country because you believe in some jackass more retarded than even you.

SeanJoyce, I know this is long after the fact but that post is sheer brilliance! I was about to post something about the ludicrous Obama = Communist comment but you did it all for me!

Great to see someone with a brain in here. Thank you!

What "incontrovertible evidence"??

Damien,

Every night after you're finished reading a chapter of your Bible, do you polish a length of your shotgun, which sits an arms-length from it?

I hope you realize that the director of this film was not only a "leftist" but lost his parents to the Holocaust.

This movie just played on TCM. Ben Mankiewicz who is subbing for Robert Osborne gave the SAME STORY, that the boy was penalized for accepting the academy award (not in person, though, because he was behind the Iron Curtain) by being forced to drop out of school and work in a quarry.

It's the SAME story that's repeated. The only 'proof' I've seen this story isn't true is a few anonymous people HERE who say it isn't, and they provide NO proof for that assertion.

I believe TCM over a few anonymous trolls. Of course if you have actual PROOF, please, feel free to provide it.

I won't hold my breath, though.

I also just watched that movie that aired and came here to read up on the movie and on the little boy because I was so moved by it and his performance. I found this thread under his name where a schoolmate had did a bio or article on him and the schoolmate even posts on the site more info. I found it a very interesting read. First there is a post 2nd one down by Zorione and the 6th one down is by the schoolmate named janhuyrch.
