Just got the DVD in the mail today!

I've been a Monty Clift fan for such a short time, and like so many others whom had never known him before, I can't believe what I'd been missing all that time! I've also been trying to bone up on my history, so when I heard that this movie not only stars him but also paints an almost documentary-like portrait of the Post-War era, I was naturally very keen to see it! It's true that it's not an easy to find DVD, and has some very expensive prices attached to it when found. I was lucky enough however to find an Italian release for only 9 euro through Amazon. It's nice to get this excited to see a movie for this first time 65 years after its release!

I don't know how the picture and audio quality is on the Italian release you purchased, but can highly recommend, in the event you're not already aware of its existence, the beautiful and pristinely perfect Warner Archive release of this movie, that's been available since 2009. Regular current Warner Archive going price for their DVD of this film is $16.95 plus S&H. However, I purchased my copy, just the other week, during a rare 5-For-$45 (which included FREE S&H) Warner Archive promotional special (during which I also got four other Warner Archive titles I'd been wanting for a while and had been waiting to eventually get), thus for total price of just $9.00. Not bad at all, and great way to maximize bang for the buck!

For your consideration, here's the url to the Warner Archive page for this movie:

The W.A. DVD is also available on Amazon.com, but always costs more there than it does if getting it directly from W.A. during one of their occasional promos.

Incidentally, register your e-mail address with the W.A. site, and they'll automatically send you a notification e-mail anytime a promotional special is being offered, and when new titles have been released.

As a fellow Montgomery Clift fan, I highly recommend him in "I Confess" and "From Here to Eternity" (both 1953, and each which I also own a great DVD copy of). They're not Warner Archive releases, but are readily available otherwise on Amazon and on eBay's half.com.

Hello! Thank you very much for your reply and the great info! I'm happy with the quality in my copy, but I will definitely keep the Warner Archive link that you gave me handy for any other future purchases, as I am a classic movie fan in general as well. I agree with you 100% about "I Confess" and "From Here to Eternity", definitely both gems. Thanks again! :-)

All my pleasure! Warner Archive is a great (typically the ONLY) availability source for especially hard-to-find old movies, from the 1920s onward. They continue releasing new (DVD availability wise) titles ongoingly. I've had all excellent experiences with the Warner Archive site, having now ordered from them a number of times since I believe 2009, and can unhesitatingly highly recommend them. PS: Warner Archive is in the same family of closely related companies as is TCM. In the event you're a regular or frequent TCM viewer, the copies of what you see there, of any movies that Warner Archive offers, exactly matches what the W.A. DVDs thereof will look and sound like.

Thanks for the hint about Warner Archive being related to TCM. Good to know!
