Natalie Wood's Name

On the listing here on IMDB the character's name is 'Eufraznee'. However, if her mother got it out of a book, she'll have known it's spelt 'Euphrosyne' (one of the Three Graces of Greek mythology).

Where would 'Eufraznee' have come from?

reply

She must have heard it and spelled it phonetically.

I got ahold of the book "Scudda-Hoo! Scudda-Hay!" that the movie was based on. In the book the character's name is spelled correctly as Euphrosyne. The phonetic spelling Eufraznee may have been used in the movie script to help the actors. By the way, I have a cousin named Euphrosyne but she pronounces it the correct Greek as "efroseenee".
