Is this a remake?

Somehow I have this unshakeable feeling that this movie is a remake or at least remarkably similar in plot to an earlier film, possibly black and white. But searching online, I cannot find any substantiation of my suspicions. Can anybody help me identify the film that I might be thinking of, or am I mistaken?

Not sure if you're still looking but could it be Libeled Lady http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0027884/ ?

Definitely NOT a remake of Libeled Lady. It has some similarities to Gentlemen Prefer Blondes (cruise ship where someone's hired to keep tabs on the stay-at-home fiance's girl) and perhaps, in small ways, to The Lady Eve.

I haven't seen this film, from what I read of the plot, it sounds like Top Hat.

There are some parallels between the two stories. By the way, Eric Blore played Bates in Top Hat and also had a hilarious cameo in Romance on the High Seas.

I bet this is a remake. Warner Brothers is famous for their remakes. Its like they bought 6 story properties in 1932 and kept recycling them every 5 years, just changing the cast, the setting and title.

Bordertown, 1935 with Bette Davis was remade in 1940 as They Drive by Night with Ida Lupino this time going crazy on the witness stand.

The Letter, 1940, set in the tropics with Bette Davis was remade in 1947 as Unfaithful, starring Ann Sheridan, set in Beverly Hills.
