Doris Day is good here

Warner Brothers must have been beside themselves to have stumbled on Doris Day. I'm so glad Betty Hutton got pregnant, her manic movements get old in 5 minutes.

Day is so photogenic, so charming, sings like a dream, its a wonder she wasn't in films a few years earlier.

Janis Paige must have hated her, having her film opportunities go to Doris Day. And then 10 years later losing The Pajama Game to Day when it went from Broadway to Hollywood.

"It costs extra to carve 'Schmuck' on a tombstone, but you would definitely be worth it."

Betty Hutton was perfectly capable of not being manic. Consider her dual role in Here Come The Waves. Janis Paige was never seriously considered for the film version of Pajama Game; therefore, Day didn't steal it from her. While it's true that the official story was that WB was deciding to cast an established movie star either in the male or the female lead role, there was no way they weren't going to cast John Raitt. He was good looking and could sing most other baritones under the table. Janis Paige had the looks, but her singing ability was only fair, and she was known to have a habit of going flat. The plan was to build up Raitt into a big movie star.
