Its amazing how hard these women worked ,I can not imagine what the pampered masses now would do if they had to do it to survive like these women did.

shareAmazing how what once was thought "realistic", "naturalistic" and very progressive, now seems so dated, melodramatic and like a very silly, overheated soap opera. I had quite a few unintentionial laughs at it's expense. The greatest howler being Vittorio's death scene on the meat hook. It is indeed very hard to imagine any of the stars in this movie as downtrodden "salt of the earth" type of people, with their perfect patrician features and beautiful bodies.
