With all due respect to Anthony Mann, this is John Alton's film! The set-ups, shots and cinematography are all succinctly economical while somehow enhancing the viewing experience w/out calling attention to the art itself. 'Painting with Light' indeed!

Once I knew John Alton did the cinematography, I had to see this movie. And I was not disappointed. The cinematography is the real star of the picture. Moody, mysterious, intriguing. Alton's work is a joy to experience.

The final shootout in gorgeous hazy, soft light. It really doesnt get any better than that..
