Two of the most memorable things about Raw Deal


1) Claire Trevor's voice-over narration. Usually this is a sign of sloppy screenwriting, but I think it works great in this film as a means of expressing a woman's POV.

2) Paul Sawtell's haunting theramin music.

No, it's not. It's a tool of screen writing that can be done well or poorly just like anything else. It is neither inherently bad nor inherently good.

Excellent response, Ore-Sama from 7 years ago. So many things that are routinely said about movies are cliches that don't hold up to a moment's thought. Voiceovers, of course, are not usually a sign of sloppy writing, but to say they are has become an oft-repeated "clever" thing to say.
