Deleted scenes?

According to the Wikipedia...there was two scenes in the screenplay that were filmed but supposedly deleted. One was Eben and Jenny having a picnic, and another one involved Jennie dancing.

Does anybody know more about these scenes?

I love this film, and would love to learn more about it!

Thank you in advance!

Sincerely, Steve B.

hullo steve i was unaware of these deleted scenes. rather a shame they were deleted as i would have been curious to see them as well. pity theres no "directors cut' on these classic films.

cheers

Have not heard of deleated scenes either, but as this movie is one of my all time favorites, anything to make it longer would be appreciated....

The scenes may serve to amplify their relationship a little better now that I think about it. Lets hope someone cleans out that vault somewhere....and they are found.

I agree!

Maybe the scenes will be found and restored someday.

Cheers!

That's too bad! If they do exist would love to see them!

I think those deleted scenes may have been sent to George Eastman House in New York.

I have an 8x10 of the picnic scene..looks beautiful.

But I seriously doubt that the actual filmed scenes survive -- are there any surviving outtakes or deleted scenes from any other Selznick films ??? not that I know of --

for many years I have heard that GWTW was once 4+ hours long -- supoosedly a Vivien Leigh collector has the unedited version in Hawaii - but will we ever see it???

reply

It would make sense Steve, those scenes are in the book. Lets hope they surface one day!

reply

I hope so too.

See the trailor for "Portrait of Jennie" on YouTube. There are glimpses of scenes in the trailor I don't remember from the movie. Check it out...

Okay, now it's a link.

On the other hand, several trailers are known to have material shot specifically for them, not lifted from the picture being promoted.
Alfred Hitchcock's Rope, for one. The trailers for Orson Welles' Citizen Kane, also featuring Joesph Cotten, and Hitch's Psycho and The Birds contain no footage from those actual films.

I would LOVE to see those scenes, but unfortunately, not many deleted scenes from old movies are available these days. I think most have been lost or destroyed.

Shame.

I agree. It would have been nice to view the scenes. But chances are, they're not available.

Cheers!

the picnic scenes under the trees of Jones and Cotten look like the scene from
"Love Letters"....

reply

I just saw Love Letters recently so I know there is no picnic scene in that movie. I also have a book on the films of Jennifer Jones (Called The Films of Jennifer Jones by W. Frank Moshier published in 1978 by the author himself) which has a still of the picnic scene which states it was cut after the 1st preview.
