At the conclusion of Night Has a Thousand Eyes, Edward G Robinson is shot
dead by the police while trying to save Miss Courtland (Gail Russell) from being murdered(strangled)by an unscrupoulos business associate under the stars. Miss Courtland is saved and the criminal is caught.
A letter is found on Mr Triton(Edward G.) written to Mr Carlson (John Lund) (Courtlands fiance),explaining what has just occured and that he was shot by the "gun that failed to fire the previous night".
He goes on to explain that some people that have seen him die will think
that these events have been contrived by him and hopes that Carlson and
some of the others will have an open mind and reminds us that there are
"many things still hidden from us - dark and mysterious".
I loved this film !
An excellent Paramount Picture, very underated - see it again if you have the opportunity.

It is also a phenomenal book, by Cornell Woolrich. I have a paperback reprint from the 80s. Get it and read it if you can!

I'm reading the book now. So much saddness with the people yet at the beginning when Jean is searching for information about her father she is sitting on the stairs of the former servent. A homeless dog walks by and wags his tail, perhaps in memory of pervious kindest, I loss it and cry for half an hour.
Dogs are such better creatures the people. I don't have much use for people. People are such *beep* Dogs will love you no matter what.

I, too, think Universal is missing out on a very marketable fan product here! The only time I've seen it was on AMC about 10~15 years ago -- when they still were AMC, w/ NO commercials! -- and have regretted not taping it ever since (as I've not seen it elsewhere since). And I knew that (re: not taping) @10 minutes into it. :( And I've searched Amazon from time to time, but not even in VHS have I found it offered. I'd not trust eBay, either (to whomever mentioned that).

A wind blows a tree branch onto some policemen late in the film. The wind's rising was another one of Edward G.'s predictions that came true.
