DIVER DAN

Heard about this movie. There is another fantastic film, actually a cartoon series with a mermaid in it. There are two actors, the diver and the mermaid and the rest of the characters are marionette fishes. Saw it when I was 5, and have just seen it recently 45 years later. Great, great series, and Miss Minerva the mermaid is a classic mermaid, especially in episode Hermit Crab. There were over 100 episodes and now only about 40 survive. Pity. This series is a treasure and they are out now on DVD. Remember baron baracuda?

Yes I remember this show.lol
And most certainly the villian Baron Baracuda.
The Baron had a couple of henchmen.
Can't remeber what species of fish they were.
Just that they were stupid.

I can recommend a version of this show, now available. Very inexpensive, about $6.00 . The henchmen was Trigger Fish, with a cigarette dangling from his mouth. Dropped it by mistake in one episode. I watched a bunch of them and they are terrific. Speak offline.

I remember watching an old movie on television about a Mermaid and an older man, about 40 years ago. I remember enjoying it. I think that is why I liked Splash so much. I plan on buying Mr Peabody and the Mermaid when its on DVD.
Thank you for bringing up Diver Dan! Baron Baracuda is the only character that I can vividly remember. When I lived in Detroit, I always watched channel 9 after school (and when playing hookie...cough..cough) Poopdeck Paul, Friendly Giant (I drove the harpists at renaissance festivals nuts asking for the Friendly Giant song), Chez Helen (though I couldn't understand French),Tales from (of?)the River Bank(Side?)with Hammie and friends, Romper Room(she NEVER said my name!),Ben and Bill(flowerpot men), Super Car, Fireball XL5, Gigantor, Tobor the 8 man, Astro Boy, Speed Racer, and Kimba were my favorite programs.
I want to collect all of those old TV shows. Oh,Great! Now I'll be humming those old theme songs!!!

Not cartoon. :) I loved that show. "They know in the deep there's adventure and danger, that's where you'll find Diver Dan. The sights that he sees are surprising and stranger than ever you'll see on the land." Interesting sort of royalty/commoner touch me not romance with Miss Minerva and Dan, but of course she had no idea what he looked like and never would unless someday she rose to the surface. I had to wonder what Dan's friends or coworkers up on the ship thought of his coming back to that spot so often. Was he an eccentric millionaire? He didn't seem to be doing any scientific work he could show them. It was the kind of show that allowed one to ponder after it was over.

It can be seen online, and this is written on one youtube episode: A segment from the "underwater" adventure series DIVER DAN (1960), featuring Diver Dan (played by Frank Freda), Miss Minerva the mermaid (Suzanne Turner), and an assortment of marionette-style fishes (all voiced by Allen Swift). The series was cowritten by Joseph Bonaduce, the father of PARTRIDGE FAMILY cast member Danny Bonaduce. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TCPa4Rci7ec

I saw it on Chicago TV on the Garfield Goose Show.
