'Blandings' is what a classic is all about

Search your soul and there is no one today who can play the "Blandings" roles as did Cary Grant, Myrna Loy or Melvin Douglas.

And the screenplay (never read the book) is just terrific.

I'd almost hate to see a crowd at today's movie theatres reaction to this great comedy...or others...like SOME LIKE TO HOT.

No passing of bodily gas, no profanity, no vulgar jokes...just real people in almost real situations.

And, I know (and totally hate the fact) that there has recently been a "remake" of this classic...but the truth is we do not have the acting talent, directors or writers to pull "Blandings" off again.

Luckily, they got it right for all the ages...the very first time.

TRIVIA QUESTION:

Anyone remember the "Blandings" house PR contest that accompanied this film in the late 1940's?

If so, in what city was that house built and discovered?

The Ice Cube remake is called Are We Done Yet? I've never seen it.

I found this link on the Wikipedia site for the movie -

This is one of the houses that was built as a promotion for the movie.

I agree with you. It just goes to show you that you don't need bathroom humor or swearing to make a really good movie.

I agree with your premise. I've never seen "Some Like to Hot". Is it anything like the Cole Porter song, "Too Darn Hot"?
