Similar to a 1942 Jack Benny movie

Jack Benny made 'George Washington Slept Here' in 1942.

Plot:

'New Yorkers Bill and Connie Fuller have to move from their apartment. Without Bill's knowledge, Connie purchases a delapidated old farmhouse in Pennsylvania, where George Washington was supposed to have actually slept during the American Revolution.

Much of the humor comes from the couple's many problems they encounter while trying to fix up the place.'

Yep...you're right.

It's funny how Cary Grant's movie became so 'famous'...and still loved today... but hardly anyone even knows about Jack Benny's film...(sorta the 'original').

I saw it once... but I'm gonna have to go request it from TCM...so I can see it again. :)

I wonder if anyone will remember the 'newer' films in the future...65 years from now. Like...The Money Pit or Funny Farm.

I love both movies and am a big fan of Carey Grant and Jack Benny. If I had to choose though I would have to say that George Washington Slept Here is the my favorite of the two.

Agree re: George Washington Slept Here. One of my all time favorite comedies (along with Arsenic and Old Lace. Yeah, I love Cary Grant!)

I really like both movies. One of the humorous things about "George Washington Slept Here" is the fantasy that an ordinary looking forty-eight year old guy like Jack Benny's character, who wasn't rich or famous, could score a gorgeous twenty-seven year old wife like the one played by Ann Sheridan.
