Is this considered to be a Christmas movie?

reply

A 'first' for me, it was never in my Christmas line up (obviously) ...
Compared to most modern Christmas movies, I'll take it ! I have enjoyed 'Elf', Carryes 'Grinch' and at times I've enjoyed 'Scrooged' so maybe I have to re think that last comment.Ever seen 'Holiday Affair' ?

reply

I'm watching it now. I can't wait to see the miracle.

It's not a Christmas movie, it's a 'Sinatra' movie. He's the star of the month. (Although I missed the beginning, and others say there was an early Christmas scene.) So, maybe it's a Sinatra/Christmas or Christmas/Sinatra flick ?

reply

Yup just started watching it on DVR

It has a Christmas feel to it. I had never seen or heard of this movie before. Turned out to be a hidden gem. It got to be a little too sappy and overdone at the end but still a nice little feel good movie. Fred McMurray crying at her bedside was over the top but the two of them in the small town at Christmas was great.

The movie did have a Christmas feel to it. I saw it before. Good movie and I loved the ending. I didn't think Fred McMurray was going to cry in the scene, but he did. I was surprised. He did so much for her when she was dead, but when she was alive, the dope never told her he loved her. Fred McMurray must have said "baby" a thousand times. He says it the whole movie. After awhile it got ridiculous.

The use of "baby" seemed out of place. They were two people who clicked but they were more interested in their careers than in a relationship. I don't think he used the term "baby" very often it just seemed like he did. Their relationship was more transcendent than casual and more respectful than the term "baby" implies. They saw something in the other that was deeper than just the physical even though they were both very good looking.

He uses 'baby' a lot in DOUBLE INDEMNITY too. I think it was meant to show that he was a cool dude being affectionate towards a gal who caught his eye.

This was really seen as an Easter film by RKO, which released it in March 1948 in time for the Easter holiday.
