How can I watch this?

As a big Welles fan, it's really frustrating not to be able to see a good version of either Macbeth or Chimes at midnight. I live in Quebec, Canada and have a region 1 DVD. I know my only resort would be to buy a DVD on amazon... I just want to know it's worth it, because i usually watch the movie before to buy it by renting them at my videostore, a far less expensive way to watch movies... Anyway. So i'd like to know which DVD version would be the best to buy on amazon? For both movies? Which one is the best restored, and, if one has english subtitles, i'd like to know, because i have a hard time understanding english with bad sound, so shakespearian english!

Neither movie has been released on DVD in the US or Canada. All the DVDs for sale on amazon are Asian or South American made. I don't have them, but I'm guessing they are of inferior quality, without access to the master copies.

If you have Turner Classic Movies, they do show the MacBeth occasionally. In fact, they will be showing it November 2nd.

Both movies are excellent, and worth seeking out. The MacBeth is one of my favorites, along with the Trevor Nunn version:http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0079499/.

Perhaps Criterion will someday make these available, but I've been saying that for years now.

It's on TCM tonight's! Also showing are Chimes At Midnight and Othello. Then, later, Throne of Blood (Japanese MacBeth)
