song played by female band?

Ok, does anyone know the name of the song that the female band, and later in the same scene Stefan, plays when Stefan and Lisa are on their date?

Hi,
I only saw part of this film 2 weeks ago, but if the scene you refer to is when Stefan plays at the piano for Lisa, then the piece of music is called "Wiener Mad'ln" or by it's english translation;"Girls Of Vienna", a beautiful waltz by the Austrian composer Carl Michael Zeihrer (1843-1922), whose music is rarely played outside of Austria.
Zeihrer was the last, and only composer apart from the Strauss family to be Director of Music to the Austrian Imperial Court Balls. He came from a very wealthy family but due to losing all his money during the first world war, he died penniless.
You can find more information at:- Johann-strauss.org.uk/composers which will also direct you to a web-site of Zeihrer CD's.
Hope this helps.

THANKS...I loved the song, and couldn't figure out what it was.

Thanks from me, too. Fine to have someone knowing about music on the board. May I ask you about something else I couldn't find out yet:

The love-theme of Lisa the main title is built on and which we keep hearing through the whole film - I know it is based on the first piece Lisa hears Stephan play on the piano. Actually, it is the ONLY piece we ever hear him play.

I would like to know: did film music composer Daniele Amfitheatrof compose it himself, or is it an actual period composition - and by whom? I strongly suspect Franz Liszt, but I do not actually know. Can someone help me?

Thanks!

By the way: one of the funniest things about the movie for me was the brass band in Linz performing Wolfram's song the the evening star from Richard Wagner's Tannhäuser. From the way the piece is counted in by the conductor ("hum hum brrrum") I hardly expected this to come...

Sorry about bothering you, I just found it looking further on the board: according to "earllingle06"(Fri Jun 9 2006 08:03:58, it was Liszt's UN SUSPIRO.

Thanks, earllingle06.

minor detail, it's Un Sospiro :) (with an O) (i got no hits on Soulseek trying Suspiro, lol)

read about it on Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Un_Sospiro

The piece played by Stefan Brand which the adolescent Lisa listens to in the courtyard and on which some of the film score is based is the Piano Etude No. 3 in D Flat major (Un Sospiro) by Franz Liszt.

Nice article on the use of music in “Letter” by Alexander Dhoest.

Also I wonder why un sospiro was selected as the theme music as Stefan Brand probably identifies more with Mozart than Liszt. (I suppose it could be argued that this is part of Brand's search for identity) Nevertheless, Amfitheatrof uses it nicely throughout the film; I especially like the orchestrated version in the opening credits. For anyone interested in a recording of the entire etude there is a nice rendition on a CD by Van Cliburn entitled “My Favorite Liszt”.
