Overwrought and silly.

Both lead characters are ridiculous in their own way, but, Lisa is simply awful and unsympathetic. What annoyed me most was what appeared to be an innocuous conversation between Stefan and Lisa outside the opera escalated immediately into the end of her marriage to Johan in the blink of an eye. A silly, silly movie and this opinion from someone who loves romantic weepies.

Agreed. Very hokey storyline. The 8.0 rating is absurd. This is like a B movie...

Sorry you didn't appreciate it. I thought it was very well done: acting, direction, camerawork top notch. However, if you don't buy the premise of romanticized love then I can understand why you didn't like it. I wanted to shake some sense into her, but she was obsessed with Stefan and gave up everything for him.

I agree with you. But I guess there really was no way to change her mind. She had to see for herself that the pianist had flings with many women.

Jim Hutton (1934-79) and Ellery Queen = 

So what was her husband supposed to do, wait until she had an affair with the pianist before breaking it off? He could see that she only cared for the pianist and not for him. Ending the marriage was the only option for him.

Agree OP.

reply

Wow, missed the point of what, admittedly, was a very different film. Rating is totally deserved.

reply

Regarding the OP, I guess this is not a film for those who do not understand the romantic in love.

reply

silly AND contrived plot, it's hard to care about the characters given the decisions they make and how poorly they are developed

so many movies, so little time
