Blue Ray DVD.

Hi I bought this movie on Blue Ray DVD a few months ago off of either Ebay or Amazon I actually can't remember, but I finally got around yesterday to playing the DVD in the afternoon nd it said that it did not work on my Blue Ray DVD player and I thought what wait a minute it has to work because I have a Blue Ray DVD player, well come to find out and some of you may already know this but they have special Blue Ray DVD players for different countries. And I bought the Bicycle Thieves on Blue Ray DVD from Europe not the United States. And so I did not know that they have different Blue Ray DVD/players for different countries.

And I was out shopping a few weeks ago with my aunt and she wanted to buy a DVD and it was a Blue Ray DVD and I told her that it would not work on her DVD player and she said well you just don't want me to watch it, and I said no that is NOT it, I told her that the Blue Ray DVD will not work on your DVD player unless it is not a Blue Ray player. So then my aunt said well again you don't want me to have any fun. So I said ok then go buy it and I can tell you that it will not work. So my aunt bought it and then she told my Dad about the DVD she bought and it being a Blue Ray and my Dad said that I was right and my aunt said oh I thought she didn't want me to have any fun and so my aunt and I had to go back to Target to return her DVD. But be careful if you do buy a Blue Ray DVD because from now on I know to look to see if it is an American Blue Ray DVD.

Yeah so there are different formats of DVDs and Blu-Rays for different areas of the world, known as region codes. As you get into more diverse (and in my opinion better) kinds of cinema you will probably find this a problem more and more, as many films are not yet releases in the US in a respectable quality.

Blu Ray:
Region A: This region covers all of North America, South America and South East Asia.

Region B: This encompasses Europe, Africa, Middle East, French territories and Greenland.

Region C: Region which covers the rest of the world including Russia, Asia, and China.

DVD:
Region 1: USA & Canada, Bermuda, and US Territories

Region 2: Europe (with the exceptions of Russia, Ukraine, Belarus), Japan, South Africa, Swaziland, Middle East, Egypt, Lesotho, and Greenland

Region 3: Southeastern Asia

Region 4: Latin America and Australia

Region 5: Russia, Asia (non-southeast), and Africa

Region 6: China

Region 0: region free, works on regions 1-6

This explains everything: http://www.regionfreedvd.net/region-codes.html

As for Bicycle Thieves, I recommend this release: https://www.criterion.com/films/210-bicycle-thieves?utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=the_criterion_collection_newsletter_december_2015&utm_content=the_criterion_collection_newsletter_december_2015+CID_e7c152ca4754845528675ae8e686aaeb&utm_source=Campaign%20Monitor&utm_term=Bicycle%20Thieves

Happy film hunting
