Just The Facts, Mam

I'd like to know the real name of the real person and his situation that began the events culminating in He Walked By Night. We are told a certain movie is based on true events and that's as far as it goes. Google never produces information. When Frank Hohimer died his name was never researched. His book, "The Home Invaders: Confessions of a Cat Burglar" was used as a basis for the movie "Thief". People want as much as $600 for the book but I picked up a first edition copy in pristine condition for 20 bucks. Nowhere in the book did the author reveal his real name and birth date as John Allen Seybold June 12, 1923 – February 2, 2005. There exists no data on this remarkable person. Joseph Sullivan Jr., on the other hand, also wrote a book and in fact his wife wrote a book. His wife maintains a Facebook account and will answer any question about her husband.

The film ... was loosely based on newspaper accounts of the real-life actions of Erwin "Machine-Gun" Walker, a former Glendale California police department employee and World War II veteran who unleashed a crime spree of burglaries, robberies, and shootouts in the Los Angeles area during 1945 and 1946.
