Gay Hamlet?

Is it me, or was Olivier playing Hamlet as a tad light in the buskins? I'd heard that he was influenced by Freudian ideas that were au courant in the 1940s, but I was surprised, watching this today, how often Olivier gives Hamlet a touch of the fey. Anyone else notice this? And if you did notice it, do you think it was a deliberate, conscious choice on Olivier's part ("Wouldn't it be interesting if Hamlet were a poufter?") Or was he just channelling his reported Gay side?

Do not believe unsubstantiated drooling gossip.
