Decent and English

Such a very decent English film. Dealing with then controversial subjects such as class-prejudice and bullying, it does so with intelligence and understatement. It manages to engage the viewers attention from the start as we wonder whether Jack will succeed or not. The acting is uniformly good and Attenborough once again shows his versatility. Mr Hartley's change of mind at the end of the film is always moving. Not perhaps a great film, but an inspiring one.

I agree. Jolly good show!

Shame that the narrative seems to veer away from Jack's story in the middle - so we never really know if he has fitted in, do we?

Rather hope he didn't. I detest boarding schools on.principle and would happily shut the bloody lot of them!
