Sure, I will cast my dispersions upon this movie.
1. Fort Apache had no walls and was located in the Arizona mountains.
2. There were no wives and girlfriends. This was an outpost, no females allowed.
3. There is NO historical basis for this movie. It could have told a true story of the war in Apacheria.
4. A John Ford movie in Moab and Monuments State park that gave mist everyone cancer, being down wind of our atomic testing.
5. The only thing that they did get sort of right was how the Apache were being starved by the Indian agents. The agents would water the beef and adjust the scales, and sell the miss weighed food to the local miners and townsfolk, which caused some Apache to leave the reservations.
6. I would have liked this movie if the women were left out, and a true story was told, instead of this made up garbage.
7. The acting in this movie was wooden. Actors just reciting lines with little believability.
8. However, you seem to like this rendering and I respect your opinion.
9. 1.5 out of 5 stars,

My mistake on a walled fort, and the fort does reside in mountainous terrain. Thursday's
charge never happened.

This movie was not filmed anywhere near the site of atomic testing. I think you are thinking of The Conqueror. That was the film where many people later got cancer.

It's okay for what it is. I've seen it a few times, and of all the westerns I've seen I can't say as I have any enhanced fondness for it.
